SAIC-GM-Wuling Yuan Zhijun: Focusing on Technology Export to India

After the mini vehicle production and sales exceeded 1 million units in 2009, SAIC-GM-Wuling ’s replacement product, Wulingzhiguang , which is the classic micro-subsidiary of Wuling Group , went public and pointed to the market with the largest market share. At the conference, Netease Auto interviewed Yuan Zhijun, Deputy General Manager of SAIC-GM-Wuling. He said that GM’s increase in shares of SAIC-GM-Wuling requires government approval, and it is not yet clear which part of the link will be disclosed. However, the preconditions of the shareholders of the three parties must not affect the development of the joint venture company.

In addition, Yuan Zhijun said that GM's current joint venture with SAIC and SAIC-GM-Wuling in the development of the Indian market is that GM's factory in India has its own car models. SAIC-GM-Wuling also sent a team to India for inspection. It should export commercial products. Vehicle technology is the mainstay, but the current staffing is not yet in place. Therefore, it takes at least 1-2 years to enter the Indian market.

Netease Auto: GM has increased the shareholding of SAIC-GM-Wuling’s 10% stake in the approval process. How is the current progress? What impact will this have on SAIC-GM-Wuling ?

Yuan Zhijun: Equity change is a matter among shareholders. Approval requires the government. We are not very clear about whether we are in charge of business, nor do we know where to go. However, there is one point where consensus is reached among the tripartite shareholders that it does not affect the development of the joint venture company. As for how to talk about the shareholders, it will continue according to legal procedures.

Netease Auto: How is GM's joint efforts with SAIC and SAIC-GM-Wuling to develop the Indian market? SAIC-GM-Wuling has plans to export to the Indian market what models?

Yuan Zhijun: We have sent a team of SAIC-GM-Wuling to visit India. However, personnel are not yet in place and it will take at least 1-2 years to formally enter the Indian market. Speaking of models, GM has its own factories in India. We will combine our own strengths and do not necessarily export products. We should focus on exporting commercial vehicle technology, and we must also refer to actual conditions.

Yuan Zhijun: This is not a brand, and it is not exactly the same. As for the target, it has not been finalized yet.
