As a leading integrated R&D center for domestic auto companies, the “Forward-looking Technology Research Center†will be an indispensable and important role in the global technology development strategy. In the future, GM’s pace of introducing innovative technologies to China will also accelerate. The center consists of a forward-looking design center, General Motors China R&D Department, vehicles and powertrain engineering experiments, and Anjixing Labs. It mainly covers five key areas such as batteries, lightweight materials, advanced manufacturing processes, engines and gearboxes, and car networking driving experience. These studies will have a profound impact on the differentiation and competitiveness of GM products, especially in fuel economy.
With the first-phase project that has been completed and put into use, the center has achieved impressive results in a number of research areas. In May this year, as part of the first phase of the "Advanced Materials Experimental Building", its casting and forming laboratory has successfully completed the first low-pressure magnesium alloy casting experiment. This technology will play an important role in the research and development of lightweight vehicles. The center's battery testing system is fully operational and will greatly increase the application of future electric vehicles and advanced energy efficiency technologies by ensuring that different batteries pass the GM's global battery quality certification review.
