According to the "Wall Street Journal" report, Cummins Inc.'s board of directors announced that its current chairman and chief executive (CEO) Tim Solso will officially retire at the end of 2011. The current Cummins president and chief operating officer (COO) Tom Linebar (Tom Linebarger) will formally take over as CEO of the company from January 1, 2012.
It is understood that more than 60% of the company's sales last year came from overseas markets, compared with 40% in 2000. Cummins pointed out that 2010 was the best year for its profitability, setting a record of US$1 billion in profits. The company’s sales increased from US$6.6 billion in 2000 to US$13.2 billion in 2010.
Alexis Herman, chief executive officer of Cummins’s Board of Directors, said in a written statement, “Under his leadership, Cummins has repeatedly made great achievements over the years, and shareholders’ returns have increased significantly. He actively promotes international business and has been committed to Create a diverse workforce."
Su Zhiqiang, 64 years old, joined Cummins in 1971 and has served in various positions in the company in different regions at home and abroad.
Lan Bowen, 48 years old, has been with Cummins for 17 years. He has served as Cummins Power President and Cummins Chief Financial Officer. He will become the sixth chief executive of the company's history.
